West Alameda Community Programs: Season of Peace

5th faster:Cesar - Well it was hard I tried my best to not to eat I drank a lot of water and I just did it and next time I’ll try harder to do it for more days and stuff.

4th faster: Marri-God bless Mahatma Gandhi, I don’t now how he did it with the fasting because it was hard. I kept having urges to eat but i kept on saying to myself that im fasting for peace. Then that made me think of the 3 children that were killed, they’re life were taken away. So that’s why I sacrificed for them.

3rd faster:Mercedes - while I was fasting, I had an empty feeling. But, I realized that our community, our world has an empty feeling, leaking from a vacant space that only peace can fill.

2nd Faster:Kathleen - peace reminded me that violence often stems from unmet primary needs and a sense of loss and poverty. Feeling love and filling your heart through positive relationships creates a sense of abundance.

I am choosing to support the Season of Peace 40 Day Fast with Alternatives in Action because living with street violence is unacceptable.  It was my worst day as a parent when my daughter, Margaret, came home from Kindergarten and shared that her friend Gabby Martinez had been killed - I did not know how to comfort her, but I know I can work to make sure that this will never happen to another child or another parent.
